How Marshall Middle School Began

The Cypress Canyon campus of Marshall Middle School opened on August 31, 1998. Marshall Middle School was named after Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice.

In 2003, Marshall became a California Distinguished school. To be a California Distinguished School, a school needs to meet very high standards. It is very hard to become a California Distinguished school, and we are very proud of this accomplishment.

During the summer of 2004, construction started on the new Marshall Middle School on property purchased by the district at Alliant International University. The new school opened in September 2007 serving the needs of over 1,500 6th-8th graders living in Scripps Ranch. Marshall Middle School continues its rigorous academic program while supporting its students’ social and emotional needs while preparing students for success at Scripps Ranch High School and beyond.  Go Mustangs!
